Former NBA point guard Isaiah Thomas is one of the most well-traveled players in recent league history, having played on ten teams in 12 NBA seasons. Thomas made them count, endearing himself to millions of fans and making two All-Star teams during his time in the league.
Thomas has remained active in the sport of basketball, most recently dropping 56 points at the Ball Don't Stop Pro Am. He was also hired by his former team, the Boston Celtics, as a college and pro scout, but according to Thomas, his playing aspirations are far from over. On Sunday, Thomas made a statement that surprised many as he revealed that he would like to take on a new challenge as a basketball player.
“I want to hoop overseas for a year!!!” Thomas said. “I want that experience! And to cook them boys over that water,” he said with a laughing/crying emoji.
Thomas last played with the Phoenix Suns in 2023-24, appearing in six games and averaging 1.3 points per game. He hasn't played 40 or more games in an NBA season since 2019-2020, when he averaged 12.2 points per game and 3.7 assists with the Washington Wizards. The Tacoma, Washington native and former Washington Huskies player was born in February 1989 and is now 37 years old, going on 38, younger than numerous NBA players, including Al Horford, Mike Conley, and LeBron James.
Thomas added a kicker to his ambitious plan, hinting that he'd like to improve his all-around point guard skills by focusing more on passing than scoring, which he was more widely known for during his days as an NBA player.”I don't want to score anymore. That's boring lol. I'd be the best PG over there. That simple!!!” Thomas added in the comments of his original post.
