The Miami Heat look like a team worth rooting for. The team finally landed Giannis Antetokounmpo after almost a year of anticipation. Davion Mitchell was another key player that the franchise secured last season.
Now, ahead of an exciting NBA season, Mitchell is literally drawing a line in the sand regarding his goals for the 2026–27 NBA season. In a recent Instagram post, the Heat guard shared a series of images from his vacation in Costa Rica.
On the last slide of the post, there was an image showing “MIP” written in the sand.
After juggling between the Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors earlier in his career, Mitchell found his footing under Miami's fast-paced system. The improvement in his assist-to-turnover ratio, three-point shooting volume, and overall offensive playmaking generated buzz.
He is also a suitable and reliable candidate to shoulder the point guard duties for the Heat. Last season, Mitchell averaged 9.3 points and 6.5 assists, while shooting 39.5% across the 70 games he started.

He is also working on his craft and shared an intense workout video in which he went up against Tre Donaldson and Ryan Conwell. Mitchell displayed elite defensive skills in the clip, keeping the rookie guards on their toes.
But Mitchell alone could not solve all the questions around the Heat roster. Miami still needs dependable names to play backup roles. Dru Smith and Donaldson could be names to watch, but the Heat will need depth to keep up if any injury concerns arise.
The Heat would still end up looking for options if things go the other way. If not, Mitchell could be a perfect role player alongside Antetokounmpo if he improves his efficiency.
