Anthony Edwards has always been cool, and an old resurfaced video shows that the Minnesota Timberwolves superstar predicted his NBA future long before he became a basketball star.
The video features a 12-year-old Edwards interacting with comedian D.C. Young Fly more than a decade ago.
Edwards was still years away from becoming a highly touted prospect, playing in the NBA, or even having a chance of becoming the number one overall pick in the NBA. Yet even then, the young kid had little doubt about where basketball would take him.

In the video, Edwards is talking about basketball and makes it clear he will reach the NBA one day. And what seemed like a young, ambitious prediction ultimately became a true reality.
D.C. himself later resurfaced the video, showing how remarkable it was for the young kid standing next to him to accomplish everything he had predicted. The footage is particularly entertaining because Edwards’ personality appears to have barely changed.
Confidence has become a defining characteristic throughout his career, whether it is talking about vulnerability, challenging superstars, or embracing the weight of being the franchise cornerstone. Edwards is never under the radar.
The resurfaced interaction suggests that mentality was something that hasn’t changed since becoming an NBA star. He is carrying that same sense of confidence.
Edwards, who hails from Atlanta, eventually became one of the best prospects in the country. The Timberwolves ultimately selected him with the number one overall pick in 2020.
And from there, he would go from a promising youngster to one of the league’s best stars. His explosive athleticism, scoring ability, and personality helped him become one of the NBA’s best players, and that’s what makes this old interaction with D.C. a full-circle moment.
Plenty of young basketball players dream about reaching the NBA, and plenty confidently tell people that they are going to make it. But only very few become the first player selected in the NBA draft and eventually establish themselves among the league’s best players.
For Edwards, however, this prediction also fits perfectly with everything fans have learned about the star. He believed that he belonged in basketball. He was NBA-bound and determined to make it.
More than a decade later, 12-year-old Anthony Edwards doesn’t sound like a childhood flashback. It sounds like a prediction.
