Liverpool ranked Europe’s No. 1 club in new global research

Liverpool enter the 2026-27 season under new management, with Andoni Iraola replacing Arne Slot at the helm after the club sacked the Dutchman in May.

The Reds have made a mixed start on the pitch, drawing 2-2 with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest before beating Ipswich Town 2-0 away from home in early September.

Liverpool now turn their attention to the Champions League, opening their league phase campaign against Atletico Madrid at Anfield Wednesday, before hosting Fulham in the Premier League three days later.

Off the pitch, the club’s reach continues to stretch well beyond Merseyside, with a global fanbase that engages daily through social media, broadcast platforms and community initiatives across multiple continents.

That global connection has now been formally recognised.

According to Liverpool FC’s official website, the club has been ranked the most culturally relevant football club among Europe’s leading sides, according to independent global research.

The finding forms part of a wider study by Harris & Toluna, which examined the factors that drive impact for brands, rights holders and commercial partners across 22 international markets.

Respondents were asked which organisations they believe hold the greatest influence over culture, covering areas such as fashion, social conversation, digital trends and content that people share and discuss.

Liverpool topped the list among football clubs, with 31 per cent of respondents identifying the club as a strong cultural influence. The next-highest ranked European club received 24 per cent.

The Reds were also named the most culturally relevant sports rights holder overall, ahead of several globally recognised sports brands. Liverpool scored 31 per cent in this category, compared with 25 per cent for the next-closest brand.

In the United States, Liverpool ranked as the most culturally relevant European football club, with 18 per cent of respondents backing the Reds ahead of the second-placed club on 13 per cent.

The ranking is underpinned by figures from the past year. Liverpool generated 14.7 billion social video views, 37 per cent more than the next-highest Premier League club.

The club was also named the Premier League’s most engaged club for a third consecutive season and recorded the most-visited club website in the division, with 96.16 million global visits.

Hannah Pym, senior vice-president of marketing and digital at Liverpool, said the club has “always stood for more than football.”

She added: “To see the club recognised as the most culturally relevant football club reflects the breadth of our community, from the passionate supporter culture and deep roots we have here in the city of Liverpool, to our global fanbase around the world.”

Pym said the continued passion and support of Liverpool’s fanbase “help Liverpool remain part of conversations far beyond football.”

The Harris & Toluna study forms part of an annual research programme and included responses gathered across the 22 key international markets surveyed.
