The Spaniard has a contract with Barcelona until 2031, and they are under no pressure to sell him, although the Premier League outfits could test the Spanish champions’ resolve when the transfer window reopens on January 1, 2027.
Eric Garcia played 35 times for Manchester City before returning to his boyhood club, Barcelona. At Barcelona, he has established himself as a key player, impressing with his versatility, technical ability, reading of the game and leadership. The 2026 World Cup winner has played across the backline and in central midfield, winning three La Liga titles, two Supercopa de Espana and one Copa del Rey thus far.
The 25-year-old has been heavily involved for the Catalan giants this season. Garcia was lucky to escape a serious facial injury against Valencia at the weekend. The defender sparked immediate concern among the coaching staff when he was forced off with a bloody nose after being struck in the face by a stray arm from Rodri. Fortunately, he has returned to training sporting a protective face mask.
Garcia unlikely to leave Barcelona
Hansi Flick rates Garcia very highly, viewing him as a key tactical option and an important part of the squad. The versatile defender and his camp remain fully committed to continuing their journey at Camp Nou. He still has four more years to run on his existing contract, putting Barcelona in a commanding position to dictate terms of his future.
Despite drawing attention from clubs like Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa, neither the player nor the club are likely to entertain a move in 2027. Spurs’ interest in an experienced, flexible and Premier League-proven talent makes sense, but there is absolutely no reason for Garcia to quit his dream club and return to England.
