Chelsea reportedly showed interest in bringing in a former Sheffield United midfielder before the transfer window closed.
The Blues, who spent upwards of £300million during the recent window, had been on the look out for a central midfielder as it became certain that Enzo Fernandez would be heading to Manchester City.
As it turned out, Chelsea failed to fill the gap but with time running out there was consideration to sign Sander Berge, according to BBC Sport.
Now at Fulham, Berge was deemed a strong candidate to replace Fernandez but no formal approach was made and it had been made clear by the Cottagers that the Norway international would not be sold.
Chelsea would then look elsewhere in Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Roma's Manu Kone but neither of those bore fruit and in the end, they failed to replace the Argentina star.
Berge joined Sheffield United from Belgian side Genk in 2020 and spent three-and-a-half years at Bramall Lane, helping the Blades back into the Premier League before being sold to Burnley.
After just a year at Turf Moor and the Clarets relegated, he made the move to Fulham in 2024 and has since made 78 appearances for the West Londoners.
