Manchester City are looking to maintain their strong start to the brand new competitive season, having won all of their opening three matches in the Premier League against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, and Coventry City.
The UEFA Champions League will certainly bring back happy memories for Maresca as a Manchester City employee, having won the competition during his last spell at the Etihad Stadium during the 2022/23 season working as Pep Guardiola's assistant coach.
The meeting with FC Porto on Tuesday night is the first of four away trips into the continent for City, with the clash in Portugal followed by meetings with RB Leipzig, FC Barcelona, and RC Lens.
Accompanying the away trips are also four home ties at the Etihad Stadium, including a meeting with the reigning holders of the tournament in Paris Saint-Germain, as well as AEK Athens, Napoli, and Sporting - the latter of which closes out the group phase in late January.

Who is missing and why?
Among the names to be absent from the travelling party are two Academy graduates in Kaden Braithwaite and Floyd Samba - both of whom were promoted into Manchester City's first-team squad by Enzo Maresca in the summer.
The pair are expected to feature for City's Under-19 squad in Porto as they begin their UEFA Youth League campaign for the club in Portugal, alongside the senior squad's tournament run.
On a fitness and injury front, both Nico O'Reilly and Jeremy Doku are absent from the travelling contingent, with the former sustaining a back problem during the warm-ups of Saturday afternoon's meeting with Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium.
The England international withdrew from the starting line-up late on the day, enabling £125 million midfield signing Enzo Fernandez to make his full Manchester City debut earlier than some may have expected.
As for Doku, the Belgium international is continuing to recover from a calf injury he aggravated during the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield - an issue some reports have indicated was first picked up during his summer run at the FIFA World Cup.
