Celtic are “admirers” of Liverpool youngster Luke Chambers and could look to sign him in the January transfer window, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The 22-year-old left-back enjoyed a productive pre-season for the Reds, even opening the scoring against Leeds United during the summer tour of the USA.
Despite this, it is clear that Chambers’ first-team opportunities will still be limited at Liverpool this season, given his lack of experience at the top level.
For that reason, a loan move away could be best for his development, and according to Nixon on Patreon [via Celtic Shorts], he is a potential target for Scottish giants Celtic when the January window rolls around:
“Liverpool will let left back Luke Chambers go on loan in January – with Celtic among his admirers.”

This feels like a no-brainer for Chambers, who would be better off enjoying senior football than playing for Liverpool’s Under-21s for the rest of the season, or possibly getting a rare appearance for the Reds in the domestic cups.
The Englishman has a bright future ahead of him, even if it’s away from Anfield, with Shaun Maloney lauding him when he managed him at Wigan Athletic:
“Luke’s a manager’s dream, and we’re very lucky to have him. He’s so talented, and he’s got a mentality that matches that. He runs to empty every single day in training and on a match day. The fans love him and his team-mates love having him here. There definitely won’t be a better full-back in this division this season.”
Celtic would be perfect for Chambers, not only because of their historical links with Liverpool, but also because it would allow him to test himself at one of the biggest clubs around, in terms of passion, pressure and expectations.
The defender could then return to Liverpool at the end of the campaign, allowing the club to assess his future and possibly sanction a permanent move away.
At 22, Chambers is no longer that young, so it is hard to see him becoming a genuinely important part of Andoni Iraola’s plans with the Reds moving forward.
