The Commanders announced their team captains on Monday afternoon, but in a way that Dan Quinn don’t normally do.
Quinn announces captains each week but instead brought up captains for the season, with leaders true and true. Here are the guys who will lead the crew this season:
Offense
QB Jayden Daniels
This one is obvious. Daniels has taken a step up in terms of leadership, with his knowledge of the offense reigning supreme. He has been instrumental in teaching David Blough’s system to everyone else. Daniels isn’t getting the honor just because he’s the QB. He earned the gig.
WR Terry McLaurin
Have you ever listened to Scary Terry speak? The dude knows his stuff. He’ll lead an improved group of skill players who should be much better than in years past. This crew includes Stefon Diggs, Chig Okonkwo, Antonio Williams and more
Defense
LB Frankie Luvu
I think we all expected Sonny Styles to run the show and for Leo Chenal to be the other strong voice in the linebacker room. Turns out it’s Luvu, a wild animal in his younger days who can still play like a feral dog. Luvu is smart and decisive and will make you hurt. Quinn made the smart call here.
S Jeremy Reaves
Jeremy Reaves was always a special teams player but has emerged as a defensive stalwart. Let him cook. That’ll let Quan Martin play more in the slot. Also, Reaves doesn’t tolerate bullshit. He tells it like it is.
