With the New York Giants facing the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 to open the 2026 season, the team would make a move when it comes to their wide receiver room. As the Giants released veteran pass-catcher Darius Slayton on Monday, this fantasy football expert reveals who managers should target after the news.
It started with the news reported on Monday by Matt Zenitz on X, formerly Twitter, that New York has released Slayton, which was said in the transaction notice from the NFL.
“The Giants have released wide receiver Darius Slayton, per today’s NFL transaction notice,” Zenitz wrote on X.
Slayton had been with the Giants since 2019, being a stable receiver throughout, even recording the second-most receiving yards last year with 538 yards. Now that he's gone, Berry is urging fantasy managers to look for Malachi Field, either in the later rounds if they haven't drafted yet or as a waiver-wire target.
“For those that have drafted, Malachi Fields should be a pick-up on Tuesday. For those drafting tonight/Tues, he is very much worth a late-round dart throw,” Berry wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Fields is a rookie that New York drafted with the 74th overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, as Berry focuses on him rather than veteran Odell Beckham Jr., and he could be in line for more opportunity with Malik Nabers still recovering.
At any rate, it remains to be seen how much of a factor Fields will be with the Giants in his rookie season, as the first glimpse will be in the Week 1 opener on Sunday night against the Cowboys.
