It has been exactly a week since the summer transfer window closed for Premier League clubs. And even though Newcastle United made plenty of signings, there are many supporters who feel that the club did not do enough.
Do Newcastle United still need to add more to their squad? Perhaps they do. And while they can no longer make any fresh signings from other clubs, the free agent market is always open.
There are plenty of high-profile players out there, who could be potential options for Newcastle United. That includes a Premier League veteran who has played extensively for both Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Newcastle World recently came up with a list of 12 free agents that the Magpies can sign. The first name on that list is that of Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Zinchenko played 128 times for Manchester City and on 91 occasions for Arsenal. So, it is hard to argue that he does not have the talent to play for Newcastle United.
The one issue that you cannot overlook when it comes to Zinchenko is his fitness. He underwent knee surgery and at the moment, it is unclear exactly when he will return to full fitness.
He left Ajax this summer as a free agent after only playing on two occasions for the legendary Dutch club. Would they have considered sticking with him, if he was close to full fitness?
Of course, it is impossible to guess when it comes to a situation like this. That being said, if the player is close to full fitness, it is almost a no-brainer to sign him for this team.
Would Zinchenko be a good signing for Newcastle?
Obviously, Zinchenko has played for two of the best teams in recent Premier League history. So, he would add that knowhow to a young squad like Newcastle United’s, which needs it.
At the same time, at 29 years of age, it feels like he should still have plenty of football left in the tank, even if he might have dealt with a serious knee injury.
At the end of the day, it all depends on the injury status of Zinchenko. If he is close to returning to action, then signing him should be considered. But he will still need a few more months to recover, perhaps the Magpies need to look elsewhere, even if they want to bolster their squad.
