The list of free-agent strikers being linked withEverton continues to grow, although one familiar Premier League name has so far stayed largely beneath the radar.
Danny Ings remains without a club following his departure from Sheffield United and has been put forward as another possible solution to David Moyes’ shortage of options at No.9.
Another experienced striker available to Everton
The 34-year-old is obviously no long-term answer, but that isn’t really what Everton would be looking for in the free-agent market.
Moyes has Thierno Barry as his only recognised senior centre-forward after Beto’s move to Fiorentina and the collapse of the Folarin Balogun deal on Deadline Day. Any addition now would surely be about providing cover until Everton can properly address the position in January.
Ings has plenty of Premier League experience from spells with Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham. His best top-flight season came at Southampton in 2019/20, when he scored 22 league goals.
There is no suggestion Everton have approached Ings, and that distinction is important. His name has instead been put forward among the free agents Moyes could consider following the club’s chaotic end to the window.
Anthony Martial has already been offered to Everton, while Mauro Icardi and Jordan Ayew have also entered the conversation in recent days.
Ings would hardly be the glamorous solution Everton were hoping for when they pursued Balogun. But if the requirement is simply an experienced No.9 capable of taking some of the load away from Barry for a few months, his name belongs in the discussion.
