**Premier League legend Alan Shearer says the Gunners’ victory against London rivals Chelsea on Sunday has made him even more convinced that Arsenal will retain the Premier League title.**

Speaking on _The Rest Is Football_ podcast, Shearer singled out the defence as the main reason why he thinks Mikel Arteta’s side will finish top of the table once again:

“They were really, really impressive. I was really, really impressed with that performance and their reaction after going behind. We all said Arsenal would win the league before the season started, and everything I’ve seen just reinforces that opinion. They’ve been brilliant, Arsenal.”

“The defence are brilliant. Obviously they get a lot of help from what’s in front of them, but Arsenal as a defensive unit are so solid. When you do get through their midfield, you’ve got that back four that work so well together and are so tight and then a brilliant goalkeeper. It’s probably the best defence in world football, so that’s a brilliant base to work from.”

Shearer thinks only one team can stop Arsenal

When pushed to predict who would be the Gunners’ main challengers, Shearer replied:

“Chelsea and Man City. I’d probably go with Man City.”

Enzo Maresca’s side are the only other team in the top flight who have maintained a 100% record after three matches played, although they did struggle to overcome newly-promoted Coventry City at home last weekend.

What are the current Premier League title odds?

-----------------------------------------------

Unsurprisingly, Mikel Arteta’s men are strong favourites to win consecutive league titles, with the vast majority of bookmakers pricing them at 8/11 odds-on.

City are second among the other runners and riders, with betting firms placing odds of between 5/2 and 3/1. Chelsea are seen as the only other genuine contender, but the Blues are priced between 7/1 and 8/1.
