**Alexis Mac Allister has revealed his ‘sadness’ at being denied a new Liverpool contract.**
Mac Allister’s future was an ongoing subject of uncertainty with Real Madrid and Manchester city among those credited with an interest in the midfielder.
His father and agent Carlos Mac Allister repeatedly shot down speculation despite admitting talks had not taken place over extending his Anfield stay.
Ahead of the Champions League opener with Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister himself confirmed that the Reds were not in a position to renew him.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad,” said the World Cup winner.
“Everyone can see I give 100% for this football club, every single day in training, games.
“Of course, I can have very good games, bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best.
“I see Dominik (Szoboszlai) and Ryan (Gravenberch) renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it.
“But at the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine.”
He added: “There wasn’t any direct conversation with me, it was my agent.
“I don’t want to say things that they never said but what I got from my agent was that they were not in a position to renew me.”
