Alexis Mac Allister has expressed his sadness at not being offered a new contract by Liverpool, with the midfielder hoping the powers that be change their minds.
While Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have both signed new long-term contracts this year, Mac Allister has been informed he will not be offered an extension at this stage.
The midfielder’s current deal expires in 2028 and his situation at the club led to offers from elsewhere over the summer, with Man City and Real Madrid among those linked.
But speaking ahead of Liverpool vs. Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister insisted he wants to stay at Anfield beyond his existing terms.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
“Everyone can see I give 100 percent for this football club, every single day in training, games.
“Of course, I can have very good games, bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best.
“I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine.”
Mac Allister admits “there was a chance” to leave

Mac Allister vowed to give “100 percent until the last day I’m here,” while admitting “there was a chance” he could have left the club in the transfer window just gone.
His desire to sign a new deal comes with an ongoing hope that Liverpool’s decision-makers will shift their stance on an offer.
“There wasn’t any direct conversation with me, it was my agent,” he continued.
“I don’t want to say things that they never said but what I got from my agent was that they were not in a position to renew me.
