There has been a groundswell of reports linking Liverpool to AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara since the close of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old is one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe and exactly what is missing from the Reds’ midfield.
Liverpool could wind up being the major beneficiaries of Chelsea’s collapsed move to sign Camara on Deadline Day by signing him in January, with several reliable reporters reporting on their interest in a 2027 move to bring him to Anfield.
One claim suggests personal terms are already in place, while Liverpool scouts were in attendance at the Parc des Princes to watch Camara’s commanding performance against PSG in Monaco’s 2-1 win on Friday night. He won 12 ground duels and kept the likes of Joao Neves and Vitinha at bay for 90 minutes.
Ben Jacobs now reports that it might be easier for Liverpool to sign Camara in January than for Chelsea, who will want to sign him for less than the €55m fee agreed with Monaco before the deal collapsed. Chelsea are unhappy with the Ligue 1 outfit for the way they handled things on Deadline Day.
Jacobs reports: “Lamine Camara and Liverpool may be a bit easier than Lamine Camara and Chelsea because Liverpool still have a relationship with Monaco, and they may be prepared to go a little higher in number if they choose to move.
“Even though the player would still be open to joining Chelsea, if Chelsea return for Lamine Camara it will likely be on lower terms, and it remains to be seen whether Monaco will play ball on that.”

Camara is a match made in heaven for Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard has brought attacking football back to Anfield after the doldrums of Arne Slot’s second season with Liverpool.
Time will tell if this is a deal that Liverpool actually pursue in January, but David Ornstein has teased that the Reds will be busier than normal in the winter window.
Until then, however, Liverpool will need to get the job done with the available options in midfield.
As things stand, it appears as though Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister is Liverpool’s preferred pairing in the middle of the park.
