Everton now considering Mauro Icardi after free-agent striker offered to Toffees

Earlier today, we reported thatEverton had been offered the chance to sign Mauro Icardi. A separate report now suggests the Argentine is among the options being considered by the Toffees.

Argentine transfer journalist Germán García Grova reported overnight that the 33-year-old free agent had been offered to Everton.

As we stressed in our earlier piece, being offered a player is not the same as Everton deciding they want him.

There has now been a further development.

Everton reportedly considering Icardi

ESPN journalist Luiz Carlos Largo reports that Everton are considering Icardi as a possible option to strengthen their attack following the collapse of the Folarin Balogun deal.

Largo says the Argentine, who is available on a free transfer, is emerging as one of the options. A move would give Icardi his first taste of Premier League football.

That takes the story a step further than where it stood this morning.

The initial claim was simply that Icardi had been offered to Everton. Largo’s report suggests his name is being considered at the club, although there is no suggestion at this stage of an offer, contract talks or an agreement.

David Moyes has already confirmed Everton are looking at the free-agent market after Deadline Day left Thierno Barry as his only recognised senior centre-forward.

That search has already thrown up several names, with the Toffees’ reported stance on Anthony Martial also emerging today.

Icardi scored 77 goals in 134 appearances during four seasons with Galatasaray and is available immediately.

This morning, the story was that Icardi had been offered to Everton. The latest claim is that the club are considering him as one of their options.
