Tottenham did well to end the transfer window by bringing in additional attacking reinforcements. Following a humbling 3-0 defeat against Brentford on the opening day, the Lilywhites went back to the drawing board and compiled a list of potential targets that the club could pursue during the latter stages of the transfer window. As a result, the North Londoners eventually secured the signature of Chelsea outcast Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan deal on deadline day.
However, it seems as though the struggles in the final third are still haunting Roberto De Zerbi’s men. We are already three games into the new season, and Spurs remain one of only three teams yet to score a single goal in the Premier League this campaign, with the other two teams being Coventry City and Aston Villa. The North Londoners have simply failed to find the back of the net despite getting into some promising positions in the final third.
The recent 0-0 stalemate against Nottingham Forest was a perfect example of why the Lilywhites could be in desperate need of new attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window. Despite getting into good positions in the final third, De Zerbi’s men did not muster a single shot on target against Forest on Saturday. The North Londoners attempted 12 shots on goal, but none of them managed to test Caoimhin Kelleher’s goalkeeping ability.

However, a dismal start to the new campaign has highlighted that the North Londoners are lacking genuine quality in the final third amid the ongoing injury crisis at Hotspur Way.
It came as no surprise that Spurs were heavily linked with Chelsea star Pedro Neto during the summer. The Lilywhites reportedly held a genuine interest in the player and were determined to bring him to N17, with the intention of making him one of the faces of the project under Roberto De Zerbi this season. However, delays in negotiations and Chelsea’s determination (getting regular minutes under Alonso) to keep hold of the Portuguese international meant that the North Londoners had to look elsewhere in the market and pursue other alternatives instead.
However, it seems as though the Lilywhites could still get a chance to land Pedro Neto in January if the club plays its cards right in the coming months. The talented winger is reportedly open to leaving Chelsea, with his representatives keeping the door open for an early exit. As per Caught Offside, Spurs need to fend off competition from Arsenal and Manchester City for Neto’s signature midway through the season. Chelsea maintain their stance that Neto is a valuable player at Stamford Bridge, but would be open to parting ways with the winger if an offer of around €80m comes their way in the winter.
Should Tottenham go all-in for Pedro Neto?
Tottenham desperately need a new attacker who could prove to be the difference-maker at N17 under Roberto de Zerbi. And what better name to bring in midway through the season than Chelsea’s Pedro Neto? He is an established starter for the Blues and could become one of the leading stars in the final third for the Lilywhites if he does make the switch to Hotspur Way in the coming months.
The Portuguese international can play on either flank, possesses explosive pace, can easily isolate defenders, and has the potential to become one of the faces of the project at N17 in the coming years. Not only that, but Neto also possesses a good passing range and has a great capacity to create key chances in the final third, something that the North Londoners have been missing under Roberto de Zerbi this season. So, all in all, signing the talented winger would make complete sense if the right opportunity comes Spurs’ way.
