The [Boston Red Sox](https://nesn.com/boston-red-sox) just finished up a huge series against the Baltimore Orioles, one in which they really needed to win. The Red Sox did exactly that, winning all four games of the set.
On Thursday night, it was a special one for Adley Rutschman, who the Orioles traded to the Red Sox at the deadline. Rutschman left the yard in his first at-bat in the top of the first inning, homering to right-center. He hit his second home run in the sixth inning, and according to the latest, he made history with those two home runs.
“He became only the second player since at least 1900 to homer multiple times in his first career game against his former team after changing teams during the same season, according to Elias as MLB.com researcher Sarah Langs pointed out on X,” Christopher Smith [wrote](https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2026/09/red-sox-win-includes-super-cool-history-meeting-before-go-ahead-hr-756-strikes-big-insurance.html).
Rutschman has struggled a tad throughout the first couple of games in a Red Sox uniform, but it's promising to see him get going like this.
He's obviously a guy who can get right at any given moment, and he's proven that throughout the past couple of years. There have been moments when he looks to be one of the best players in baseball, while others have suggested that he can be just about average.
While he's an elite defensive player, adding him at the deadline was also about what he does on offense. Hopefully, Thursday night was just the start of him really getting going.
