THE first ‘big six’ clash of the season saw two clubs with a 100% record come face-to-face. Arsenal played host to Chelsea at the Emirates but the hosts received a shock in the first minute when Morgan Rogers netted his second goal since arriving from Aston Villa. Former Chelsea man Kai Havertz scored the equaliser in the 25th minute with a shot that goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez should probably have stopped and the game was clinched by Martin Ødegaard in the 50th. Arsenal showed they are out to retain their title and Chelsea suggested they are a better equipped side than last season, but they are still some way from being contenders. Manchester City also have a 100% record after beating Coventry City with a goal from Erling Haaland. Liverpool secured their first win under new manager Andoni Iraola as they beat Ipswich Town at Portman Road (pictured). There was relief for Crystal Palace as they picked up their first points at Fulham, a game they won by the odd goal in five. Tottenham Hotspur got off the mark with a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, while Hull City maintained their unbeaten start with a goalless draw with Aston Villa. Everton drew 2-2 Manchester United thanks to a 96th minute equaliser by Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
**Game of the Week: Ajax v PSV Eindhoven**PSV have dominated Dutch football in the past few years and judging by the start of 2026-27, they will be setting the pace once more. Ajax went into this game unbeaten in the league but are still lagging behind last season’s champions. PSV took the lead in five minutes through Ricardo Pepi but 18 minutes later, Tolu Arokodare, a season-long loan player from Wolverhampton Wanderers, equalised. Lutsharel Geertruida restored PSV’s lead in first-half added time and the game was in the balance right up to the final minutes before Esmir Bajtarevic added a third for PSV with seconds left. The big talking point was a rash challenge by Ruben van Bommel on Ajax defender Aaron Bouwman (pictured) which left the 19-year-old with a bruised lung and sternum. PSV coach Peter Bosz came in for some criticism after insisting Van Bommel was extremely upset afterwards for injuring his opponent.
**Line-up: Paris FC at Marseille**PARIS have had a very good start to the Ligue 1 campaign with two wins and a draw from their three games. After keeping two clean sheets against Troyes and Nice, they won 3-2 at Olympique Marseille, clinching victory with four minutes remaining. Paris led three times but the home team came back twice to level the scores. While their squad has a value of little more than 10% of their neighbours Paris Saint-Germain, around half of Ligue 1 has a lower value. Their squad is a classic mix of experience and youth, with the oldest player being Kevin Trapp, their 36-year-old goalkeeper who was signed from Eintracht Frankfurt in August 2025. Trapp has also played for PSG. Captain Pierre Lees-Melou (33) and Moses Simon (31) were the other over-30 year-olds in the team against OM. The most highly-valued players in the squad are 18-year-old Rudy Matondo, who joined from Auxerre last year and Patrick Zabi (19) who arrived from Reims. Both Matondo and Zabi are valued at € 20 million. Centre back Diego Coppola (22), who cost € 16 million when signed from Brighton in the summer, is valued at € 18 million, while Pablo Pagis, a forward, joined from Lorient for € 15 million. Lassine Sinayoko, who scored a hat-trick against OM, was signed from Auxerre for € 8 million. The Mali international has four goals in his three appearances this season.

****Alexander Isak
**HAS Isak finally arrived at Liverpool? Last season, he looked like a £ 125 million misfit, but there were questions about his fitness and he also suffered from injuries. There was some bad karma around him as he left Newcastle United under a cloud and this may have affected his mentality when he arrived at Liverpool. However, his double against Ipswich Town made it three goals from three games, equalling his Premier League total for last season (three in 14). This is a player with a genuine track record – before joining Liverpool, he had scored 60 goals in 103 Premier League appearances for Newcastle. Better times should be ahead for the Swede.
**Nicola Katić
**SCHALKE’s 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich was something of a surprise result, not least because it was the first time in 59 games that Bayern failed to score. Much of this was down to a stubborn Schalke defence and at the heart of their rearguard action was 29-year-old Nikola Katić, who got his head in the way of countless high crosses. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international was solid throughout the game. Katić has played for Rangers and Zürich and appeared in the World Cup for his country.
**League Focus: La Liga**TROY Parrott, who joined Real Betis in the summer from AZ Alkmaar, came off the bench to score a late winner for his new club as they pulled-off a surprise 1-0 win against Real Madrid. Goalkeeper Alvaro Valles was another Betis hero, he saved an added time penalty kick from Kylian Mbappé. Barcelona were relentless at Valencia, winning 5-0 with Lamine Yamal scoring twice. Barcelona are top with a 100% record, while Valencia are bottom with one point from four games. Alavés are in second place after their 5-2 win against Osasuna. Alavés’s Lucas Boyé scored a treble in 41 minutes. Atlético Madrid were beaten 3-0 in Bilbao with all the goals coming in the second half. Deportivo La Coruna kept up their unbeaten record with a 3-2 win at struggling Villareal, with the veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring the winner in the final two minutes.

**League Focus: Serie A**IT WAS a weekend of comebacks in Serie A, with Inter Milan once more reminding everyone that they are determined to keep hold of the Scudetto. In the big clash of the day, Inter found themselves two-down to Napoli at the San Siro before they staged an impressive recovery. Matteo Politano and Rasmus Højlund gave Napoli a commanding lead, but Lautaro Martínez pulled one back shortly afterwards. Marcus Thuram netted an equaliser eight minute from time and Martínez added another to seal a 3-2 win. Roma also demonstrated their character with 2-1 victory against Atalanta. Goals from Mario Hermoso and Matías Soulé in added time cancelled out the Bergamo side’s 47th minute goal effort from Éderson. Lazio also kept their 100% record with a 2-1 win at Udinese. Como continued their good start to the season with a 4-1 win at Genoa, while Juventus and Milan fought-out an uninspiring draw in Turin.
