The [Boston Red Sox](https://nesn.com/boston-red-sox) have dealt with multiple injuries this season, and they've continued to pile up in an unfortunate way.
One of the guys who has dealt with an injury recently is Ceddanne Rafaela, arguably one of the most important players on this team.
Rafaela leads the Red Sox in batting average at .282 and has 151 hits, which also leads the organization. He currently owns a .760 OPS and has posted a 5.5 WAR, the second-highest on the roster.
As Rafaela continues to deal with this injury, it doesn't seem like it's anything major, but something is up with his right quadriceps. The hope is that he can return soon, with him being placed on the 10-day IL. The move was retroactive to last Thursday.
“Boston Red Sox outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela has been placed on the 10-day injured list because of a right quadriceps strain. Boston made the announcement Sunday before finishing off a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 3-1 victory. The move is retroactive to Thursday,” ESPN [wrote](https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/49852697/red-sox-put-ceddanne-rafaela-10-day-il-strained-quad).
The Red Sox don't have much reason to rush guys back unless they truly believe they have to win a ton over the next two weeks or so before the regular season ends.
However, already seven games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians for the third Wild Card spot, they're in a very good spot.
Of course, as we've seen throughout the year, anything can happen, but the Red Sox don't have any reason not to make the postseason, so keeping Rafaela healthy should be the bigger priority.
