Warriors' Jimmy Butler gets good injury timeline update as Steph Curry waits on his Robin image
The Golden State Warriors will have an interesting task ahead of them this season after failing to land some of the players they wanted in free agency. Another challenge is that the team could have to rely heavily on Steph Curry while Jimmy Butler works his way back from a serious knee injury.
This stems from an injury Butler suffered last season when he tore his ACL.
“Injured Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler underwent successful surgery on his torn right ACL on Monday morning in Los Angeles, the team announced,” ESPN’s Anthony Slater wrote. “Butler suffered the injury on Jan. 19 in a win over the Miami Heat. He consulted several specialists for the surgery, landing on Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, who performed it on Monday morning with a few members of the Warriors' organization on hand.”
It now looks like Butler's return timeline is down to January or February.
“Butler has been slowly increasing his on-court work while traveling the globe this summer, and the most recent strength tests on his right ACL recovery have shown notable progress, according to league sources. But Butler still has extensive rehab work ahead. He is expected to be limited to individual court and strength work when training camp opens in a month, league sources said, with the 36-year-old forward needing more time to be cleared for a full contact setting. A return in January or February can be considered an optimistic target,” Slater wrote.
For Curry, he knows just how much Butler means to the team. After all, Butler is the Robin to Curry's Batman.
“It's real. I'm telling you. That's a Batman if I've ever seen a Batman," Butler said. "Always coming to save the day. You’re never out of any game. And more than anything he’s just so poised and so calm. He was a huge part of us getting this victory.”
The two have developed a great relationship since Butler was traded to Golden State. Together, they have played extremely well on the court and helped elevate the Warriors since Butler's arrival.
Curry will try to keep the Warriors in playoff contention until his Robin returns around January or February. For Butler, this is a great sign, as he continues to make tremendous progress in his recovery.
