**Liverpool are said to have “held talks” over a contract extension for Reds legend Alisson, according to a significant claim from former scout Mick Brown.**
The Brazilian has become a superstar at Anfield since joining from Roma in the summer of 2018, becoming one of the leading goalkeepers of his generation.
Alisson is now in the final year of his current deal, however, so there is a chance that this will be his final year in a Liverpool shirt, especially if he wants a new challenge.
Speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpool/liverpool-make-alisson-becker-new-contract-decision-after-talks), Brown said there have been “talks” over the 33-year-old staying on with the Reds and penning a new contract, even though he says an exit is still possible:
_“The thing is with Alisson, he’s a very, very good goalkeeper. Everybody knows that, he’s been seen as one of the world’s best for quite some time now, and he’s still putting in top-class performances for Liverpool in the Premier League._
_“When you have a player of his stature and experience, often it’s best to keep them around even if you maybe have doubts about his age or injury history as you say._
_“But it’s something Liverpool have held talks about internally, because there is a decision to be made, and perhaps they think they can bring in a younger, more reliable option. That’s something they’ll have to explore, because if they want to let someone like Alisson go, they’d better have a top-class replacement lined up._
_“At the moment, I expect they’re more on the side of letting him go, but a lot will depend on how he plays this season and if he proved he can still be at his best. But considering his age and injuries, if those become a problem again this season, I can see Liverpool deciding that the time has come for him to move on.”_
**Liverpool must do all they can to keep hold of Alisson**
----------------------------------------------------------
Alisson isn’t getting any younger, but he is still far from old for a goalkeeper, and extending his stay is a no-brainer, considering he is still among the best in the business.
Liverpool’s No.1 is a colossal presence between the sticks, like Virgil van Dijk in front of him – [James Milner](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2022/11/with-or-without-his-beard-liverpool-team-mates-praise-alisson-as-best-in-the-world/) once called him “world-class” – and that should continue for another few years.
Losing Alisson next summer would be a massive blow, leaving a huge void in the Reds’ goal, but the club hopefully won’t have to sort that issue well into the future.
To put it bluntly, he is an irreplaceable figure.
