[Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/09/08/offered-no-impact-newcastle-united-player-slammed-performance-millwall/) have an interesting start to the season. Perhaps that would be the best way to explain it. They have won away against Tottenham Hotspur and only narrowly missed out on beating Liverpool, as they conceded a penalty deep into added time.
At the same time, there have been some questionable performances as well. They drew against a Bournemouth side that is still searching for its first Premier League win under Marco Rose. But even more worryingly, up against Championship opposition, Matthias Jaissle’s side could only win narrowly by a one goal margin.
The latest of them came against Millwall. A late goal from Joe Willock sealed a 1-0 win for Newcastle United. But it is quite clear that this team could do with a few more options going forward.
One player who left Newcastle United this summer is Anthony Gordon. The club brought in Bazoumana Toure, but so far, he has not had the impact they must have been hoping for. Perhaps a more experienced option could help.
[Newcastle World](https://www.newcastleworld.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-news-free-agents-man-united-8955948) recently published a list of free agents Newcastle United could sign. One of the names on there is that of Jadon Sancho.
Sancho has played for some of the best clubs in the world in the form of Chelsea, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund. He has also spent time at Aston Villa.
At the international level, Sancho has made 23 appearances for England and for a while, it had looked like he was set to be an integral part of that team.
Unfortunately, after joining Manchester United, his career went on a downward trajectory that he still has not recovered from. But the flashes of quality are still there. We saw them at times at Chelsea and back on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Perhaps joining a club where he gets the chance to be a central figure again could help someone like Sancho rediscover his old form.
At this point in time, signing Sancho would be a risk. We have seen him fail to reproduce his Borussia Dortmund form at three different clubs now.
One can only wonder why that has been the case. What is it that has not worked out? Let us not forget that for a while, it had looked like he was going to be a Ballon d’Or contender for the next decade to come.
Sancho’s numbers at Borussia Dortmund were staggering. But he simply has not been able to showcase that version of himself in the Premier League.
Would it make sense for Newcastle United to make a move, hoping that it finally works out? Or should they simply stay away and try to make the best out of the players they already have?
