The Memphis Grizzlies will soon make a necessary decision in determining their final roster slate before the 2026-27 NBA season officially starts.
As such, among the potential candidates the Grizzlies could release, D'Angelo Russell is one of the players in the mix, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.
"They got to cut four of Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy, D'Angelo Russell, Walter Clayton Jr., or Kris Murray," Fischer said on Bleacher Report.
"I don't think D'Angelo Russell's long for the Grizzlies’ world."
Memphis Grizzlies carrying loaded roster ahead of next NBA season
The Memphis Grizzlies currently have 19 players on standard contracts. While they can carry that many players into training camp, the team will need to reduce its roster to 15 players before opening night.
The recent trade with the New Orleans Pelicans allowed them to maintain their roster as it is, acquiring Jordan Hawkins and Micah Peavy for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson in a 2-for-2 player exchange.
D'Angelo Russell bound for Memphis Grizzlies exit
D'Angelo Russell's exit in Memphis is already looming, as it was previously reported that both he and the Grizzlies are working out a resolution.
Either Russell will be traded or waived by Memphis this offseason.
Russell, who exercised his $5 million player option for the 2026-27 season, was moved by the Washington Wizards to the Grizzlies in a multi-team trade deal.
The 30-year-old former No. 2 overall pick of the Los Angeles Lakers averaged 10.2 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.3 rebounds in 26 games last season for the Dallas Mavericks.
