Alexis Mac Allister‘very sad’ over no Liverpool contract offer

Alexis Mac Allister is ‘very sad’ that Liverpool have declined to offer him a new contract.

The midfielder has two years left on his current deal, which he signed when he joined the Reds in 2023.

Mac Allister confirmed he had offers to leave in the summer, but he opted to stay because of his love for Liverpool.

Speaking ahead of the Reds’ Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, he said: “I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very sad. I think everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club, every single day in training. Of course I have good games and bad games, but I always give my best.”

Mac Allister has been a valuable member of Liverpool’s squad since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023.

He has made 153 appearances across all competitions, bagging 19 goals and 20 assists in the process.

The Argentine played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s 2024-25 Premier League title winning campaign.

However, his performance levels dropped last season, as the Reds finished fifth in the league.

Mac Allister returned to form during the 2026 World Cup with Argentina. He started seven games at the summer tournament, helping the national team reach the final against Spain.

New boss Andoni Iraola featured Mac Allister off the bench in Liverpool’s opening match at Newcastle.

But the Spanish boss has started him in the last two fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town.

Liverpool could offer Mac Allister a new contract if he continues to impress with his performances this season.

A departure next summer also looks on the cards though, provided a suitor comes up with a lucrative bid.
