The 25-year-old joined Manchester City from Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window in a £125 million deal, the biggest in the club's history, and made a strong impression at the Estádio do Dragão on his UEFA Champions League debut in sky blue.
Fernandez was thrown into the starting XI in last week's 1-0 win over Coventry City after Nico O'Reilly suffered an injury in the warm-up.
Against Porto, the Argentina international set up Erling Haaland's first goal before the Norwegian added a second to take all three points, maintaining City's perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign - with four wins in as many games in all competitions under Enzo Maresca this season.

Fernandez Expresses Gratitude for Maresca
Maresca had pushed hard all summer to bring Fernandez to Manchester City, with the pair having worked together during Maresca's time at Stamford Bridge before the Italian's departure for the Etihad Stadium.
That shared history appears to have accelerated Fernandez's integration and the warmth of his post-match words suggests a player who arrived with the relationship already established.
On reuniting with the manager who pushed for his signing, Fernandez said: "I'm so happy that Enzo Maresca did all he could to make the move happen, I know him so well from his time at Chelsea.
"And I'm just so grateful to him for everything he's done for me and my family. I'm going to give 100 per cent in every training session, in every match, so I can repay him!"
Manchester City travel to Manchester United on Sunday for the first Premier League Manchester derby of the season, looking to extend their perfect league record.
