European nights are back at Anfield as Liverpool kicks off its Champions League campaign against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
It’s a replay of last season’s league phase opener, which saw the most thrilling of ends as Virgil van Dijk’s late winner led to Diego Simeone clashing with Liverpool fans and being sent off - and there’s never any shortage of drama when it comes to the Atletico boss.
A lot has changed since then for the Reds though, and Andoni Iraola takes charge of his first Champions League game as head coach, aiming to build upon his first win with Liverpool just a few days ago.

The game kicks off at 8 pm local time on September 9 at Anfield. For fans in the United States, that's 3 pm Eastern Time and 12 noon Pacific Time.

Viewers in the United Kingdom will be able to catch all the action live on TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate, with coverage getting underway at 7 pm. Streaming is also available via HBO Max.

Early team news
Liverpool is not expected to have any new injury concerns following Friday's win over Ipswich. Joe Gomez is nearing a return, having been missing since picking up a knock in the opening minutes of the Reds' first pre-season game.
Giovanni Leoni and Federico Chiesa are not expected to return to training until the international break, although the latter is not in Liverpool's Champions League squad in any case. Neither is midfielder Wataru Endo, who was named on the bench at Ipswich.
Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike will remain out until later in the year, although both have been named in the European squad, so could still play a part in the league phase.

Bradley Barcola could be in line to make his first start, having come off the bench on Friday for his debut, with Iraola confirming the winger is ready to play more minutes.
As for the visitors, Julian Alvarez has been included in Atletico's traveling squad despite trying to force through a move to Barcelona during the summer.
The Spanish side though is without winger Arnau Ortiz, who is serving a suspension after being sent off while playing for Polish club Slask Wroclaw two years ago, while striker Alexander Sorloth is out injured.
