Liverpool hold an interest in Roma midfielder Manu Kone as they consider signing a new midfielder in future transfer windows, according to Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
Liverpool's main priority in the summer transfer window was to strengthen their attack, following the summer exit of Mohamed Salah and the long-term injury suffered by Hugo Ekitike.
The Reds eventually completed the big-money signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, with the France international joining Victor Munoz as the other new forward addition at Anfield.
Of course, Jeremy Jacquet also linked up with the squad after the Merseyside outfit agreed a deal to sign him in the January transfer window, while Ronald Araujo has joined on loan to bolster the centre-back and right-back positions.
The one position that Liverpool did leave alone was in midfield, despite the exit of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan and speculation over the future of Alexis Mac Allister.
The Argentina international has now come out and said there was a 'chance' he could have left during the summer, with the club informing him that they weren't going to offer him a new deal.
“Everyone can see I give 100 percent for this football club, every single day in training, games.
“Of course, I can have very good games, bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best.
“I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine.”
With two years remaining on his contract, it would suggest that there is a strong likelihood that Mac Allister leaves the club in 2027, barring a remarkable U-turn by the club.
Liverpool Like Lamine Camara and Manu Kone

GIVEMESPORT sources have already revealed that Liverpool made a series of calls to inform Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara that he was high on their list for 2027, with Ornstein also confirming the Reds' interest in the Senegal international in a new Athletic Q&A.
Camara and Kone could be the talk of the transfer windows in 2027 after both were strong targets for Chelsea in the closing days of the window, with Chelsea pivoting to the former after getting close to agreeing a £52m deal to sign the latter.
According to the Athletic reporter, Liverpool and Manchester United both hold an interest in Kone, having arguably been France's best midfielder at the World Cup.
"Manu Kone from Roma. He came very close to joining Chelsea before they pivoted to Camara. And let’s see what position Roma are in at the time in terms of European football and financial compliance (come the winter window).
If Liverpool were able to land a player of Kone's calibre for around £50m, it would have to be seen as a huge coup based on what we have seen from the 25-year-old for France and Roma in recent seasons.
He has established himself as one of the best in his position in Europe, and he looks ready to make the step up to one of the elite clubs now.

Kone is showing he is an all-round midfielder as time goes on, and he could be the ideal player to replace Mac Allister in Liverpool's engine room, if the Argentine leaves in 2027 as is expected after his latest comments.
Now it's over to the Merseyside outfit's club chiefs to see if they go for him and can get a deal over the line.
