Newcastle United sporting director Ross Wilson has suggested there is money to spend in January - but hopes the summer business will see the club through the season.
The Magpies underwent a staff and squad overhaul in the summer after Matthias Jaissle replaced Eddie Howe as head coach, while Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes were sold and eight new signings arrived.
United spent around £270million on recruiting Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Hornicek, Amar Dedic, Nico Gonzalez and Matias Fernandez-Pardo, but the sales of Gordon, Tonali and Guimaraes came to a combined £240million, totalling in a net spend of £30million.

Do Newcastle United have money to spend in January?
Jaissle has made an unbeaten start to the new Premier League campaign, beating Tottenham Hotspur away and drawing at home to Liverpool and Bournemouth. And should the German feel the need to further strengthen the squad in the winter, Wilson has hinted it is possible, but the preference would be to hold out until next summer.
“Yeah, of course, but we've built a squad for the season,” said Wilson. “That's what we've done. That doesn't mean we might not make further alterations to it in January.
“If you want to be a successful club in the Premier League, you have to trade players, and if you don't, chances are you won't be a successful club in the Premier League, particularly where the revenues of this club are in a phase where David and his team are making those revenues really, really grow.
“But without that, if you don't trade players, you're going to get stuck.”

Ross Wilson reflects on NUFC’s summer transfer window
Reflecting on the summer window, Wilson added: “I had a clear idea, identity-wise, what I wanted Newcastle United to look like, which we absolutely shared, our ownership share.
“The key for us was getting to the end of the window, not to the start of it or halfway through it, to the end of the window and really feeling the identity, and that doesn't mean it's perfect, it doesn't mean that we are over the moon with it, but we're happy where we've got to, structurally in the squad, identity in the squad, identity in the coach, and we want tomove forward bravely.”
