Hugo Ekitike has shared footage of him training with a ball at his feet as he closes in on a return from a ruptured Achilles tendon. One of Liverpool's most versatile attacking threats last season, disaster struck for the 24-year-old during a Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain in April.
The Frenchman looked in pain as he went down off the ball just 31 minutes into the match at Anfield, being replaced by Mohamed Salah as the Reds suffered a 2-0 loss to knock them out 4-0 on aggregate. And in the aftermath, officials confirmed the worst - Ekitike sustaining a heart-breaking issue with his Achilles.
The attacker was told that he faced a sustained period on the sidelines given the nature of his injury, ruled out of action for club and country as he had to watch the World Cup from the sidelines over the summer. While Alexander Isak has had to lead the line alone since, Ekitike has shared a promising update with fans of his training with a ball at his feet, suggesting his return could be on the horizon.
Taking to Snapchat, the highly-rated talent shared a clip of him keeping a football up against a wall, using both feet. He simply captioned the clip 'warm-up.'
And now, Ekitike has seemingly approved a message citing how he, Isak and new summer signing, Bradley Barcola, will tear up the Premier League when he is fit to play under Andoni Iraola, having liked a post by Rising Ballers on Instagram. The page wrote: "This is great to see...
"Hugo Ekitike shared this Snapchat of him continuing his recovery and he’s stepped it up by now having a ball at his feet. Was huge for Liverpool in his first season and will be a big miss until he’s back but his link-up with Isak and Barcola up top is going to be cinema.
"23 G/A in 45 games for Liverpool last season having also missed the end of the campaign shouldn’t be slept on. So good to see Hugo move another step closer to recovery."

It has been a long road to recovery, with time still needed before Ekitike is available for selection, but fans will undoubtedly want to see their forward back to his best in the near future.
Ekitike managed 17 goals and six assists across all competitions last season, having completed a move worth up to £79million from Eintracht Frankfurt.
It comes as Isak is once more starting to thrive in the English top flight, following a season marked with fitness issues and injuries in 2025/26. Having completed a £125m move from Newcastle United 12 months ago, Isak looked far from match-sharp as a result of missing pre-season due to a dramatic transfer saga.

He then sustained a broken leg in the December, which forced him to miss 24 games for Liverpool and Sweden. While he returned in the April, Isak struggled to build momentum in the final stages of the season, managing just three goals and an assist from 14 games overall.
However, the 26-year-old has shown exactly what he has to offer this season so far, when afforded a full pre-season camp and consistent minutes.
While he failed to score in the Reds' 2-2 opening day draw with Newcastle, Isak managed a goal against Nottingham Forest the following week, as well as a brace against Ipswich Town at the weekend.
He will be hoping for more of the same when Liverpool take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at 8pm (BST) on Wednesday evening.
