Jamie Carragher believes Erling Haaland could end up surpassing the goalscoring exploits of Cristiano Ronaldo and score more than 1,000 goals before the end of his career

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes that Erling Haaland could become the greatest goalscorer of all time, following another impressive showing in the Champions League.
The striker scored twice for Manchester City, as Enzo Maresca picked up his first win in the competition as the new manager at the first time of asking, getting the campaign off to an ideal start.
It was a match that continued Haaland's good start to the season, having picked up three Premier League goals in as many matches, with a brace in the Champions League opener continuing that scoring streak. That has now taken the Norwegian international's overall career tally to 302 in senior club soccer, while his international goals bring that up to 364.

At just 26, there is a belief that Haaland can just keep getting better and better, with the pace and physicality unmatched, alongside his eye for the back of the net.
That has led Carragher to believe that the Man City striker can score over 1,000 goals in his career, as he backs him to become one of the greatest goalscorers of all time.
Speaking on CBS, he said: "I just can't see Haaland not scoring 1,000 goals or being the best goalscorer of all time. I've never seen anybody like it in terms of goals and numbers and how it's just every game.

"And because he does it so often, it doesn't feel that big. He's just scored two goals, away from home, in the Champions League. Any other striker does that and that's like an amazing night. It just feels like a normal night.
"It does, I just can't see how he doesn't end up being the greatest goalscorer or getting the most goals we've ever seen anybody get."
Haaland has certainly shown he can score plenty of goals, going at a rate of nearly a goal every game at each club he has been at, working his way up to the very top.

Considering his age, there is a chance for him to add the extra 636 goals to reach that 1,000 landmark, but it may well depend on a few things going the striker's way in the coming years.
Not only will he need to keep scoring at an impressive rate, but there will need to be a drive and desire to keep on featuring when he's older, akin to someone like Cristiano Ronaldo, who is chasing down a similar target at 41 years old.
It remains to be seen whether that is possible, but as records continue to tumble in his presence, it would be no surprise if Haaland continues on such a trajectory.
