FC Barcelona brought in up to seven new players in the last summer transfer window to reinforce all the areas of their team. The latest of these signings was that of Gabriel Jesus, who joined the Catalans very late in the transfer window, and was registered with La Liga in the very last minutes.
Although not a signing that most fans would have expected, his arrival can still turn out to be important for the Blaugranes, especially as their team was without a natural center-forward following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.
As SPORT has reported, Jesus, who has already made his debut in Barcelona colors, recently appeared in an interview with SportyTV, and talked about his transfer from Arsenal to the Catalan club. The Brazilian highlighted how he was facing a highly uncertain time at the London club:
“The truth is, I was training. I did the entire pre-season with Arsenal as normal. Obviously, I already knew that I probably wasn’t going to play there or that I wasn’t going to have many opportunities, but nobody had told me anything. Well, I’m a professional, you know, so obviously I kept training with the group.”
“Then, suddenly, they had me training on my own. I kept training and giving my all to be ready in case I had the opportunity to play at the highest level again.”
Jesus then revealed how his transfer to Barcelona came about unexpectedly quickly:
“Then, in the last week, everything happened very quickly. Deco’s work with the president, the club and my representative was incredible. From one day to the next, we knew that I had the opportunity to come.”
“Obviously, I said yes to Barça straight away… I’m very happy to be here.”
For now, with the way Raphinha is playing, it would be very difficult for Gabriel Jesus to get a starting spot. However, with the hectic schedule that Barcelona will once again be facing this season, he will get plenty of chances to showcase his skills to his new fans and prove that betting on him was the right move by Deco.
