Estevao has become the subject of growing scrutiny at Stamford Bridge this week. He is only two games into life under Xabi Alonso, and already there are concerns. Chelsea have started well on the pitch, but the winger’s game time remains a growing worry, as per the latest transfer news.
Estevao Feels the Squeeze Under Alonso
The Blues beat Fulham and Brighton in their opening two**Premier League** games, before a 2-1 loss at Arsenal ended that start. Estevao has struggled for regular minutes this term despite promise last season. As reported by Metro, the Brazilian winger now fears a lack of game time could push him toward a January exit.
He turned 18 before his permanent switch to Stamford Bridge last year, having joined Chelsea from Palmeiras for around £51million. Expectations grew quickly after a promising debut campaign in England, but everything changed in May, when a bad hamstring injury ended his season early and ruled him out of the World Cup.
He is fully fit again now after a long lay-off. Even so, chances have been hard to come by. His minutes have been limited, a brief cameo against Arsenal and Fulham, a start in the Carabao Cup tie with Luton Town, and a place on the bench for the Brighton game, pointing to a cautious return.

Why a January Move Could Be On the Cards
Estevao has told people close to him that he fears he will not get enough game time this season. Because of that worry, he could consider a move away from the club once the January transfer window opens, despite his current happiness at Chelsea.
Part of the issue is tactical, and it is a straightforward one to explain. Most of his football last season came from wide areas. Still, he leans toward a central role Cole Palmer has claimed this season. On top of that, Morgan Rogers has also impressed just off the left this term. Rogers arrived from Aston Villa for a club-record £117million, so he is unlikely to be dropped soon.
Pedro Neto has held the right-side role in both league games so far. As a result, that spot looks like the most realistic route into the starting XI. Even so, reports suggest he may not be satisfied there long-term. There is also concern about whether he can adjust physically to a wider, more defensive role without losing his attacking edge.

What Comes Next for the Young Winger
Chelsea have a notably lighter schedule this season after missing out on Europe. This means fewer matches overall across the campaign. In theory, it should also mean fewer chances to rotate the squad regularly. Meanwhile, Joao Pedro, Palmer and Rogers are all in fine form. As a result, competition for places in the final third looks unusually tough for a teenager still settling in.
For now, those close to the situation say Estevao is happy in West London. He has no immediate plans to force an exit. But patience only stretches so far at this stage. If chances stay scarce into the new year, then a fresh start elsewhere could start to look tempting.
Alonso, meanwhile, is fully aware of what is at stake. Mismanaging a player of this calibre could easily cause unrest in the dressing room. Ultimately, how he balances the long-term development of a rising star against short-term results may end up shaping one of the more interesting subplots of the season ahead.
