Everton scout spotted at Porto clash – but who might the Toffees have been watching?

**Everton’s summer transfer window may have only just closed, but the recruitment work never stops. Especially when you’re Everton.**

According to Portuguese newspaper _O Jogo_, [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) were among several clubs to have a representative watching Porto’s Champions League clash with City at the Estádio do Dragão on Tuesday night.

There is no suggestion at this stage who Everton were watching – or even that the trip was connected to one particular player. But where’s the fun in leaving it there?

Porto’s team certainly contained some interesting names, with **William Gomes** perhaps one of the more obvious to catch the eye.

The 20-year-old Brazilian winger has started the season well and was in Porto’s starting XI against City. **Gabri Veiga**, still only 24, was another intriguing name in the side, while Argentine midfielder **Alan Varela** also started.

Before we get carried away, though, there is absolutely nothing at this stage to connect any of those players with Everton.

Scouts attend games routinely, and Tuesday’s trip could have been general reconnaissance, part of a longer-term assignment or even a chance to look at several players. Turning Everton’s presence at one Champions League game into a transfer link would be stretching things considerably.

Still, after such a chaotic end to the summer window, it is interesting to know that the scouting operation is already out there doing its work.

So we’ll throw this one over to you.

**Evertonians – if you could pick one Porto player for the Toffees to have been watching on Tuesday night, who would it be?**

January isn’t _that_ far away…
