Alexis Mac Allister has praised former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and made his feelings clear on the Dutchman's achievement during his two-year spell at Anfield

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has spoken about former head coach Arne Slot and praised the achievement of winning the Premier League title.
The Dutchman was given the tough job of following legendary manager Jurgen Klopp in 2024, with the German having held the position for almost a decade. Liverpool enjoyed one of its most successful periods in modern history under Klopp, with both the Champions League and Premier League won during his tenure.
Despite the size of the shoes to fill, Slot continued that success with a league title in his first season in charge. The Reds stormed to victory with a 10-point gap over second-placed Arsenal, and the title was secured as early as April.
Slot's second season at Anfield, however, was far less promising, and there were plenty of off-pitch difficulties he had to contend with. On paper, a fifth-place finish and Champions League qualification should not be terminal for a league-winning manager, but with so many disillusioned with the style of play, Liverpool's hierarchy opted for change in the summer.
The club parted ways with Slot and appointed former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard is a coach known for his intense style of play, and he was tasked with bringing that back to Anfield.
Although it's early days in this new era, players have frequently been asked about the differences between the two coaches. Ahead of Liverpool's Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister came to Slot's defense and highlighted the magnitude of the achievement of winning the Premier League.
"I don't like to compare," he told TNT Sports. "I mean, there are similar things and different things.

"But in the end, everything in football has already been invented. There is nothing that you can do that's new.
"Of course, there are some similarities and some differences and it's good. We feel comfortable playing with Andoni. With Arne, we won the Premier League, which is not easy at all.
"So there are two amazing managers and I think this club proves over the years that they don't only bring good players but good managers as well."
Liverpool takes on Atletico at Anfield on Wednesday night in a bid to get its European campaign off to a winning start. There could also be a home debut for summer signing Bradley Barcola, who made his first appearance off the bench last Friday against Ipswich Town.
