At this rate, it appears unlikely Trey Kaufman-Renn will be at Timberwolves training camp when it opens later this month after a court cleared the way for him to return to college for a fifth year of eligibility.
Kaufman-Renn, whom the Wolves selected No. 58 overall in the June NBA Draft, was granted his motion for a temporary restraining order against the NCAA at a Clark County Circuit Court on Wednesday, the Indy Star reported.
That means the NCAA must allow the forward, who just finished his fourth full season at Purdue, to join a college basketball program until another hearing regarding his motion for a preliminary injunction is held. That hearing has yet to be scheduled, the Indy Star reported.
Per the ruling, Kaufman-Renn cannot sign a professional contract, which he has yet to do with Minnesota. Kaufman-Renn was unlikely to garner a spot on the Timberwolves’ active roster, or nab one of the team’s two-way contract spots.
