Barcelona are 'postponing' the first multi-million payment to Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon, it has been claimed. The 25-year-old joined the Catalan side in a £69million deal back in May.
Gordon put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract and has since made an impressive start to life at Camp Nou, registering five assists in his first four La Liga matches. The England international then helped Barcelona earn a 5-1 win against Feyenoord in their Champions League season-opener on Wednesday.
Spanish outlet El Desmarque report that Gordon has been a 'seamless fit' as a Barcelona player - and has convinced everyone that the deal to sign him from Newcastle was a smart one.
As part of the transfer, Barcelona agreed to pay a series of instalment payments to Newcastle. There is claimed to be a 'short-term payment' of £18.88m and a second which reaches the full fee.
The Spanish newspaper add that Barcelona have now agreed with the Magpies to change the schedule for those payments after postponing the first of them. They have reportedly deferred their first short-term £18.88m payment until June 2027, one year after it was originally meant to be sent across.
That will allow Barcelona some breathing room for their transfer debts. It's believed the La Liga champions owe nearly £77.3m related on the signings for the 2026/27 season.

Barcelona spent £158m on eight players during the summer transfer window. As well as Gordon, Rodri arrived from Manchester City in a £51.5m deal, Karim Adeyemi joined from Borussia Dortmund for £18.9m, Gabriel Jesus was signed from Arsenal for £8.6m, while Jesse Bisiwu, Dominik Livakovic, Hamza Abdelkarim and Joao Cancelo were the others to move to the Spanish club.
They have won all five of their competitive matches - four in La Liga and one in the Champions League - so far this season and Gordon has been a key part of their standout start.
Speaking in his pre-Feyenoord press conference, Flick conceded that Gordon has missed chances to open his Barcelona account but admitted he has made some "important assists".
Flick said: "I think as a striker, from his side, you want to score goals. He has had some chances and he missed them. But he has made the final pass to prepare the goals and this is also very important."
Barcelona are next in action when they travel to Levante in La Liga on Sunday. They then host Racing Santander before making the trip to Sevilla in their final game before the first international break of the season.
