Everton Approve Surprise Move For 18-Year-Old: Is This The Right Decision For The Toffees?

Everton have approved an 18-year-old goalkeeper’s temporary move to Southport, with Goodison News reporter Dan Lewis stating that Douglass Lukjanciks will leave Finch Farm for the National League North side. The deal gives the teenager his first experience of senior football away from the club since he signed his first professional contract in October 2024. The academy staff want him exposed to a more demanding level before he pushes for senior opportunities at Goodison Park.

Lukjanciks played 25 times for Everton’s Under-21 and Under-18 teams last season, while his biggest moment came in January. Against West Ham United in the FA Youth Cup, he saved all three penalties in the shootout, helping the young Blues progress after a 2-2 draw. Southport have confirmed the loan and described him as an England youth international who has represented the country from Under-16 to Under-19 level.

Is this the right decision from Everton?
