On-loan Barcelona star Ronald Araújo conjured up an unexpected moment of individual brilliance on the continent on Wednesday night. This came during Liverpool’s Champions League showdown with Atlético Madrid.
Defender Araújo of course secured a Barcelona exit earlier this summer, taking his talents to England to line out for Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool for the duration of the season ahead.
After something of a hit-and-miss start to life at Anfield, the Uruguayan announced himself to his new club’s supporters last weekend, courtesy of a standout performance in a Premier League meeting with Ipswich Town.
And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, Araújo has carried this excellence over to the European stage.
The 27-year-old was afforded a starting berth at right-back for Liverpool’s Champions League opener against Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid this evening.
And with the Reds trailing by a goal to nil, Araújo teed up Dominik Szoboszlai to level things up, courtesy of a sumptuous flicked assist. Check out the stopper’s moment of creative ingenuity below:
