Alexis Mac Allister scored a screamer from the top of the box in the 50th minute, and that proved to be the game-winner as Liverpool got their Champions League campaign off to a strong start with a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid.

Alisson (7/10): Outstanding stops to keep Liverpool in the contest

Van Dijk (6/10): Solid in defense and pushed up the pitch at times

Jacquet (6/10): Did well to cause turnovers high up the pitch.

Kerkez (5/10): I still think there are better options for his spot, but a serviceable match

Wirtz (6/10): Better game than last time out, but still needs to be more involved

Szoboszlai (8/10): Solid in the midfield, plus scored the equalizer in the first half

Isak (5/10): Quiet day considering his recent form

Barcola (6/10): Missed a chance, but played well overall. Hopefully, the injury is not serious

Araújo (6/10): Beautiful backheel to set up Szoboszlai strike

Mac Allister (7/10): Was caught out of position on Atletico’s opening goal, but redeemed himself with a wonder strike

Ngumoha (6/10): Some fancy footwork, but had poor touches at other times.

Substitutes

Frimpong (7/10): Brightest of the subs. Earned a corner and caused problems on the wing

Munoz (6/10): Drew a foul to get Liverpool out of a tight spot

Gravenberch (6/10): The savvy veteran helped see out the win.

Tsimikas (5/10): Late sub, no impact

Koumas (5/10): Late sub, no impact

Man of the Match

Szoboszlai

The Manager

Andoni Iraola (7/10): The boss did a great job getting a response from his club after going a goal down

LFC Globe Verdict

This was a strong start to the Champions League campaign for the Reds. The injuries to Cody Gakpo and Barcola are concerning, but Liverpool do have some depth at those spots, and they are hopefully minor anyway.
