Morgan Rogers needed just 45 minutes to underline his growing importance to Chelsea during the remarkable 6-3 Carabao Cup victory over Leeds United.
Morgan Rogers started on the bench as Xabi Alonso made nine changes at Stamford Bridge.
By half-time, Chelsea were 1-0 down and struggling to create enough against a heavily rotated Leeds side.
Alonso responded by turning to his senior players.
Rogers was introduced alongside Cole Palmer, Reece James and Joao Pedro, and the complexion of the match changed almost immediately.
Chelsea eventually recovered from 2-0 down to win 6-3.

Rogers transforms Chelsea after half-time
The contrast between Chelsea before and after the interval was significant.
Alonso’s heavily rotated starting side contained plenty of talent but struggled to turn possession into sustained pressure.
Leeds then doubled their advantage early in the second half.
Chelsea suddenly needed their biggest attacking players to rescue the tie.
Palmer provided the goals which brought the hosts rapidly back into contention, but Rogers became one of the central figures behind the attacking wave that followed.
His ability to carry the ball forward, commit defenders and make the final pass repeatedly opened spaces that Chelsea had struggled to find during the first half.
It was exactly the attacking profile Alonso wanted when Chelsea spent £117million to bring Rogers to Stamford Bridge.

Palmer recently backed his team-mate to make a “big difference” at Chelsea, with their understanding already evident during the win at Fulham.
Against Leeds, both changed the game from the bench.
Palmer provided the ruthless finishing Chelsea had lacked, while Rogers repeatedly created openings around him.
That gives Alonso a potentially important tactical advantage.
Chelsea do not necessarily need Rogers to dominate the ball like a conventional No.10. His power and direct running can create the space which allows Palmer to operate closer to goal.
The relationship is still developing, but it is already influencing matches.

Wednesday’s contribution also continues an impressive start to life in west London.
Rogers scored on his competitive Chelsea debut against Fulham, provided an assist against Brighton and struck again during Sunday’s narrow defeat at Arsenal.
