The Los Angeles Chargers are going into the 2026 season with full belief that Justin Herbert is their franchise quarterback. Herbert is entering his seventh year in the NFL with the Chargers and consistently puts up productive numbers. However, this is the year Los Angeles hopes to not only make the playoffs, but finally make a deep run in the post-season.
In order to do that, Jim Harbaugh has decided to make a change on offense. Here are the details.

Justin Herbert Sees Offensive Line Change Before Season Opener
For their first game of the 2026 season, the Los Angeles Chargers will take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
With Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator, they will have a new-look offense. With the new scheme, Los Angeles is expected to be balanced and dangerous. While the Chargers return several skill position players, they have experienced significant turnover on their offensive line and tight end group.
With that being said, Jim Harbaugh has named Kayode Awosika the Chargers’ starting left guard:
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Harbaugh confirmed that Awosika will start at left guard for the Chargers this season.
“He’s been very consistently good,” Harbaugh said of Awosika.
Awosika entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. After spending most of that year on their practice squad, the Detroit Lions signed him in 2022. In four years with Detroit, Awosika played in 49 regular season games, starting 11. He then signed with the Chargers during the 2026 offseason.

The entire interior offensive line of Los Angeles will feature new starters from one year ago. Butch Barry is credited with getting the most out of Harbaugh’s offensive line.
“A ton of credit to Barry,” Harbaugh said. “I’ve been enamored with his coaching style since the first or second time we were on the grass in OTAs. His meetings, individual periods, there hasn’t been a day where it’s changed or he’s had a bad day. Therefore, his players haven’t had a bad day. They’ve been locked and loaded for every one of those. Why did we keep 11 offensive linemen on the 53? Because they’ve all done a tremendous job in their training, in taking what they’re learning on the field, and then executing it. Happy for where that position group is right now.”
Their offense will be bolstered by the return of Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt at offensive tackle. With a torn patellar tendon, Slater missed the entire 2025 season, and Alt missed 11 games with an ankle injury. Jake Slaughter, who started 33 games at Florida during his four years in college, will start at center.
