Lamine Yamal backs Barcelona teammate to lift award at Ballon d’Or ceremony

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has taken to social media, to make known his backing for teammate and close friend Pau Cubarsí in the race for the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Blaugrana pair Lamine and Cubarsí were of course both rewarded for their stellar exploits over the last 12 months on Tuesday.

Despite their tender years, after playing leading roles for both Barcelona and Spain en route to glory in La Liga and the World Cup respectively, the youngsters were included on the 30-man shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

In addition, both were named amongst the candidates to scoop the Kopa Trophy, a prestigious prize handed to the best-performing player in world football aged 21 and under.

And as alluded to above, of the opinion that his teammate should be considered a shoo-in to ultimately clinch the Kopa next month is Lamine Yamal.

Taking to his official social media platforms this week, the young winger wrote:

“The only winner should be Pau Cubarsí”
