Liverpool provide injury update on Dutch striker following UCL absence image
On Wednesday afternoon, Liverpool kicked off their Champions League campaign with an enthralling 2-1 thriller against La Liga side Atletico Madrid. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister were the Reds' scoring pair who brought an important three points in the league phase back to Anfield.
One player that didn't feature in Wednesday's European affair was Cody Gakpo, who was omitted from the lineup due to an injury, which sent some level of worry into the Liverpool faithful. But according to a recent report, there isn't much to worry about for the Dutchman.
Liverpool's update on Gakpo
As stated in a post on Liverpool's website, Gakpo was sat out of Wednesday night's action as a precautionary measure, with Andoni Iraola explaining that he could return to the pitch as soon as this weekend's match against Fulham.
According to that same post, the injury that he suffered wasn't fresh from warm-ups or training, as it was suffered over the weekend in their match against Ipswich Town, with the Dutchman having "some adductor issues".
This will be good news for the Red part of Merseyside, as there's a case to be made for the 27-year-old being their best player out of the gate.
In the opening three games in the Premier League this season, Gakpo has found the back of the net on three separate occasions, along with a lone assist, managing to be quite the pivotal piece in a system that is looking to move on from the presence that was Mo Salah, someone who ran the offensive end of the pitch.
With that departure, it's believed that Gakpo will have a bigger part to play in Liverpool's plans moving up the pitch, which could see him build on his 12 goal involvements in the English top flight last season.
