Megan Thee Stallion is wrapping up her hot girl summer by reflecting on her painful breakup with NBA star Klay Thompson.
The Grammy winner, 31, opened up about her April split from Thompson in InStyle‘s September cover story, describing their relationship’s acrimonious end as “very rough.”
“What’s meant for you is always going to work out. And if something is constantly making you feel uncomfortable, just on edge all the time, you probably are not supposed to be there,” she said in the interview, which was published on Wednesday, Sept. 9. “God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you.”
The rapper and Thompson, 36, were first linked in the summer of 2025, and made their red carpet debut that July. But by April 2026, things had soured, and Megan accused the Miami Heat star of cheating on her in a post shared to her Instagram Stories.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay,” she told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. “Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”

In her interview with InStyle, the “WAP” rapper said she’d spent most of her relationship with Thompson “trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong,” and doing her best to fit herself “into someone else’s life.”
“I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” she said. “I cannot be disrespected. I cannot be a person who is not gonna be me. I cannot not go to work. I’m going to be Megan Thee Stallion…You will not disrespect me. And you will be thankful. Period.”
She added that while she’s “trying my best,” the situation felt to her as if she’d gone through the washing machine and dryer “with tins, shovels and a cactus.”
Moving forward, Megan said that she’s hopeful her next relationship will be with someone who understands that she has a busy life and a bustling career and does not want to stay home “24/7.” She also expressed interest in developing more of a balanced partnership with her next suitor.

“Whoever dates me is gonna have to just understand, like, she is her own person,” she said. “I cannot be minimized. I will not be behind any man. I will have a partner. I’m never gonna take the backseat to anything. So just going forward, I think I’ve just learned this is the type of person that I want to be with, this is what I will tolerate, this is what I won’t tolerate. And if you can’t take that, we just gotta respectfully go our separate ways.”
She also reflected on how it feels to be cheated on in a relationship, and said she now realizes that it’s not something to take personally.
“That doesn’t have anything to do with you. You’re not less attractive. You’re not less of a good person,” she said. “Even though it might feel like that, ‘Oh my gosh, why me? Why am I not enough?’ ‘Cause it could definitely feel like, ‘Why am I not enough?’”
Megan has been enjoying her time since the split, vacationing with Solange Knowles, appearing as a guest on Love Island USA and even teasing new, unreleased music while on a boat.
