However, his performance levels dropped last season, as the Reds finished fifth in the league.
Based on his performances last term, the club were right not to offer him a new deal.
But he has made a strong start this season, featuring in all four games across all competitions.
If he continues this form, there is no reason why Liverpool should not change their present stance and hand him a new contract.
