Lakers must get idea of trading for Knicks wings out of their minds image
Los Angeles Lakers fans are always hopeful that they can make blockbuster trades to improve their roster. While the Lakers have made some of the biggest trades in NBA history and it wouldn't be surprising to somehow see them do so again, it's also important to recognize that it takes two teams to make deals.
For a team like the New York Knicks, who don't really have much reason to break up their current core, the Lakers' interest in guys like OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges is simply a pipe dream.
However, one writer believes that it isn't as far-fetched as it might sound, even if most don't think it will ever happen.
“OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges have been floated as the type of bigger two-way forwards who would give Los Angeles exactly what it lacks, although there is little reason for the championship Knicks to break up either piece of their core,” Ryan Anderson of the New York Post wrote.
“Any significant trade would also likely require the Lakers to find a taker for Jarred Vanderbilt and combine additional salary and assets.”
The Jarred Vanderbilt aspect is interesting here, but there's absolutely no chance the Knicks are going to move either Bridges or Anunoby for a player of Vanderbilt's caliber. It's also tough to find a scenario in which the Lakers would get decent assets in return for some of those guys, as much as fans might want that to happen.
This is a pipe dream, and it would be shocking if it happened.
