Alisson will not join the Brazil squad for their friendlies against Australia and India in the upcoming international break, in a major boost for Liverpool.
Carlo Ancelotti has left out a number of his most experienced players ahead of three friendlies at the end of September and the start of October.
While it comes after a miserable failure at the World Cup, it does not signal an end to Alisson’s career with the national team.
Instead, the 33-year-old has effectively been rested as Ancelotti uses the two meetings with Australia (Sept 25 and 29) and another with India (Oct 3) to “prioritise the younger ones.”
Alisson, Ederson and Weverton, the goalkeepers at the World Cup, are replaced by Corinthians’ Hugo Souza, 27, Coritiba’s Pedro Morisco, 22, and Cruzeiro’s Otavio, 20.

“We know Alisson very well, and when the competitions – like the Copa America – come, if he remains the best goalkeeper in Brazil, Alisson will play,” Ancelotti told reporters, per ESPN.
“Right now, however, we have to prioritise the younger ones.”
Ancelotti’s decision can only be seen as a positive for Liverpool, who will not see their No. 1 goalkeeper make long-haul trips to Australia and India for meaningless friendlies.
Instead, Alisson can rest during an extended, three-week international break – and though he is still expected to make a long flight back to Brazil to visit his family, his body will not endure the same rigours as if he was in action.

The newly appointed vice-captain has begun his ninth season with Liverpool in solid form, including an outstanding save in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid.
He was also nominated for the Premier League’s Save of the Month award for August after a stellar stop to deny Igor Jesus in the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.
The introduction of a longer international break means Andoni Iraola’s side will not play for 20 days between the trip to Bournemouth on September 20 and the visit of Man City on October 11.
In the meantime, the majority of his squad are likely to represent their national teams, with Brazil typically the first to announce those called up.
Alisson is into the final year of his contract at Liverpool, having committed to the club amid interest from Juventus over the summer, and it is possible this will be his last season at Anfield.
The £30 million signing of Belgian teenager Lucca Brughmans from Genk appears to have signalled the end of Alisson’s legendary spell with the club.
