Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes David Moyes could consider leaving the club if he is not backed in the January transfer window.
Moyes did not attempt to hide his disappointment with Everton‘s summer business after being left with just 18 senior outfield players.
The 63-year-old admitted last week that he knew the numbers required to build a Premier League squad and was disappointed more business had not been completed.
Wyness makes Moyes prediction
Wyness, who worked with Moyes during his time as Everton chief executive, does not expect the manager to walk away now.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “There’s no way. I don’t see David doing that. David doesn’t bluff, he doesn’t play games. I know him well, obviously, from our time together at Everton, which was a very successful period. He loves the club.”
Wyness, however, believes January could be significant if Moyes is again left frustrated.
“I don’t see him walking away yet, but I think January is going to be quite important, because if he isn’t backed again then, I think everybody would understand if he was to move on. David’s stock is pretty high right now, and I think there would be other suitors at that time of the season.”
Moyes himself has given no indication that he is considering leaving. Asked about his position following last week’s transfer-window disappointment, he stressed that he would not have returned for anyone other than Everton and said that being back at the club had “reinvigorated” him.
His contract does expire at the end of the season, however, while January offers Everton their first opportunity to address the gaps left in a squad Moyes has described as “real small”.
